Panama accuses Nicaragua of allowing Martinelli to make political statements from its embassy

The Panamanian Foreign Ministry has accused the Nicaraguan government of violating diplomatic agreements by allowing former Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli to make political statements from the Nicaraguan embassy, where he is currently seeking asylum. Panama demands that such actions be prevented.

The Panamanian diplomatic note sends a “formal and vigorous warning” regarding Martinelli’s actions from the Nicaraguan embassy in Panama, where he is seeking asylum.

Nicaragua “has the unavoidable responsibility of not allowing acts contrary to public tranquility” and, therefore, of ensuring that Martinelli’s behavior “remains within the established limits” without intervening in Panama’s internal affairs, it adds.
